It is essential to have working brake pads on the 2004 Dodge Ram. These are the devices that aid in halting your truck. When you step on the brakes, the cylinder in the caliper compresses the pads against the rotor. The pads will slide against the rotor bringing the Ram into a halt. If the brake pads are worn out, it has to be replaced.
1. Park you Dodge Ram on a leveled surface and have the emergency brakes on. Open your hood.

2. The caliper cylinder is compressed, and so to not blow a break line or the brake fluid reservoir, unscrews its cap for safety.
3. Use a jack to lift the front of your Dodge Ram and make sure that they are sitting securely on the jacks.
4. Take the front driver side wheel using a lug wrench.
5. Take the brake caliper off from the rotor. Use a ratchet and socket to remove the bolts securing it. You then slide it at the top of the rotor. For the mean time, hang it to the frame using a bungee cord.
6. Using your hands, remove the brake pads that are inside the caliper.
7. Put a C-clamp inside the caliper and compress the cylinder by turning the caliper clockwise. This will then allow more room to insert the new brake pads. When the caliper cylinder is fully compressed, remove the C-clamp.
8. Go ahead and slide the new brake pads. Remove the bungee cord and slide the brake caliper back to the rotor.
9. Bolt the caliper back using the ratchet and socket.
10. Take the wheel back and slide it back to the hub and secure the lug nuts.
11. Jack the Dodge Ram down and get the jacks and clear the area.
12. Secure the cap of the brake fluid reservoir and then shut the hood.
13. Check the engines and see to it that the brakes feel right. Pump the brakes to remove any air that has accumulated and also to compress the brake pads to the right distance from the rotor.
